Venetian Red was the most popular colour of the six with 30% rolling off the production line.1956 marked the First Major Facelift for the 1st Generation (C1) Chevrolet Corvette. Visual design elements that transformed the Facelift include: an Elliptical Concave section at the Rear of the Lower Bodysides that was swept back from the Front Wheel Wells; known as ‘Coves’, Faux Vent Scoops atop of the Front Fenders, & Forward Headlights without the Headlight Screens. The 1953-1955 Fenders & Jet-Pod Tail Lamps were minimized to more attractive French Curves contoured to match the Rear Deck curvature. New Taillights were neatly added above a Vertical Bumperette on each Fender. The Trunklid ‘Shadow Box’ was discarded & the License Plate was moved below the Trunk opening. In all, the result was a smooth, gently curved Backend with slightly protruding Fenders. New ’56 features included: Roll-up Glass Windows replacing the Side Curtains & Power Windows was now an Option, Outside Door Handles, Tighter Fit Convertible Top with Power Option also offered in White or Beige as a choice, new Optional Factory Hardtop with Stand improved visibility over the Soft Top. The ‘Mouth’ Grille & Iconic Wheel-Knockoff Hub Covers remained from previous the years. New to the Interior was Spring-Stroke Steering Wheel, Waffle-Pattern Upholstery & revised Door Panels to go with the Wind-Up Windows, the Shifter was moved to the Top of the Transmission Hump, the Heater was changed from a recirculating variety to a new ‘Fresh Air’ version. A Transistorized Signal-Seek Radio was also offered as an Option, & Seatbelts were also offered for the first time as a dealer installed Accessory Kit. The Stylish Twin Cowl Dashboard & Full Width Instrument Panel was carried over.
